The Chief Justice of India S A Bobade led bench on Tuesday (12 January) suspended the Narendra Modi led central government's farm laws, until further orders.

The Supreme Court has also announced that it will constitute a four committee to hold talks between the protesting farmers and the government.

Incidentally, this announcement comes at a time when farmer protesters have announced that they will not be cooperating with the committee in resolving the matter.

The farmer protesters have claimed that such a committee is a delaying tactic and a "honey trap" to lure the farmers. The protesters have also said that they are not willing to participate in any proceedings before the Supreme Court appointed committee.

The order of the Supreme Court was a result it hearing petitions seeking the removal of protesting farmers from Delhi Borders.

The Supreme Court also told the centre that it is not happy with its handing of the laws.

When Solicitor General (SC) Tushar Mehta countered the SC's reservations by pointing out the support for these laws by a large number of farmer groups, the CJI reportedly replied "We don't have any single petition before us saying that the laws are good."
