Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and offered to quit, taking moral responsibility of the two train derailments that Uttar Pradesh had witnessed in the last five days, Indian Express reported.

“I met the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking full moral responsibility. Honourable PM has asked me to wait,” Prabhu said on Twitter.

This came soon after chairman of the Railway Board, A K Mittal, tendered his resignation. Prabhu has reportedly not accepted his resignation yet.

The minister came under attack from the opposition after the Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express derailed near Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh. At least 74 people were injured in the accident. This accident followed the one in Muzaffarnagar, where 22 people were killed after the derailment of Utkal Express.
