The soon to be inaugurated statue of Vivekananda was vandalised by a group of students protesting in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), reports Times Now.

The security officials of the university have reportedly captured visuals of the incidents. These recorded visuals will be used to investigate and punish erring students by the university.

According to the report by Times Now, the university will give maximum punishment of rustication from the university to those students who have been recognised. Other students who have been involved in the provocation will be fined Rs 20,000 and may face eviction from the hostel as well.

Earlier, various other students bodies such as All India Students Association (AISA) along with students of Delhi University (DU), Jamia and other colleges along with teachers had come out in support of JNU hostel fee hike.

Earlier on Monday (11 November), thousands of JNU students clashed with the police as their protest over the recent fee hike escalated. Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' was confined for over five hours at the venue of the university's convocation.
