In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 August, Member of Rajya Sabha and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy has accused officials of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) as well as those from the Finance Ministry of trying to ‘save’ former union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram.
In the letter, Swamy has stated that even though the Income Tax (IT) Department and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have found concrete evidence against the younger Chidambaram, neither agency has done much to arrest him. Claiming that the evidence of property in 14 countries and 21 ‘illegal’ foreign bank accounts is enough to have him arrested under the new Benami Properties Act and Black Money Act, he further went on to say that certain officials have been delaying the process by writing letters to the foreign nations, seeking further details.
Swamy also put on record that a Will was found during the probe that would bequeath the entire property belonging to various directors of Karti’s firms to him, his wife anf daughter.
