Angered by 'anti-Islam' activities of Swedish far-right extremists, a mob on Friday (28 August) threw stones at police and burned tyres on the streets in southern Sweden.

At least 300 people had gathered to protest against anti-Islam activities in Malmo, a Swedish city, reports WION.

The violence was connected to an incident earlier in the day in which another group of protesters burned a copy of the Islamic holy book at an event.

The event was to be attended by Rasmus Paludan, a far-right Danish anti-immigration party leader.

However, the Swedish authorities pre-empted Paludan's arrival and to stop his participation in the event announced a ban on him from entering Sweden for two year. The Danish activist was later arrested near Malmo.

Following Paludan's arrest, the far-right leader's followers burnt a copy of the Islamic holy book at the Malmo event.

Further, several other anti-Islam activities had taken place in Malmo on Friday, including three men kicking a copy of the Islamic holy book between them in a public square.

Paludan, who was earlier arrested, was later sent back from Sweden by the authorities.

"Sent back and banned from Sweden for two years. However, rapists and murderers are always welcome!" Paludan wrote on Facebook, reports India Today.
