In yet another cash seizure ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, election officials seized Rs 2 crore from a vehicle used by DMK and VCK party workers, during a routine check. The money is believed to be for distribution to voters by DMK party in its constituencies, reports The Hindu.

The vehicle was stopped near Maruvathur in Perambalur district on Tuesday (2 April) night on suspicion by highway police and static surveillance team.

Thangadurai, former Perambalur district secretary of VCK and N Prabhakar, State deputy secretary of labour wing of the DMK, were among those in the vehicle.

This is a second instance this month where previously unaccounted cash of around Rs 9 crore was recovered by IT department during its ongoing raids on the premises of DMK treasurer Durai Murugan and his aides.

This cash allegedly meant for voters during the upcoming elections was recovered from a cement godown located inside the residence of DMK's Katpadi town panchayat secretary Seenivasan. This house is located in the Vellore district’s Pallikuppam.

The money was kept in small denomination notes and stuffed in cartons, gunny bags and was to be distributed in various wards.
