Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2021
The DMK cadre is reportedly flouting all Covid-19 related guidelines whilst celebrating their prospective victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections by gathering in large numbers at the party headquarters in Chennai.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has barred political parties from holding major gatherings to celebrate their wins in the polls amid the current pandemic situation in the country.
Initial trends from the Tamil Nadu polls indicate a convincing victory for the MK Stalin-led DMK+ alliance with the Dravidian party itself leading in as many as 118 seat currently.
Additionally, its allies, the Congress and the left parties are at advantage in 16 seats collectively.
The counting of votes for the 234-member Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am on Sunday amidst strict Covid protocol.
A party would require at least 118 seats to win the election. The E Palaniswami-led AIADMK, who has allied with BJP, seeks to retain power for the third time in a row but faces a stiff challenge from M K Stalin-led DMK.
