Tamil Nadu: Excess Electricity Demand Pushes Coal India To Up Its Supply By 1.5 MT

16 goods-trains full of coal will be supplied to Generation and Distribution (Tangedco) to meet the demand for electricity production in the state of Tamil Nadu. Out of the 6.1 lakh tonnes of coal delivered per day, 4.95 lakh tonnes will be supplied by Mahanadi Coalfields, and 76,000 tonnes will be supplied by Eastern Coalfields. The rest 38,125 tonnes will be supplied from the Central Coalfields.
In August and September, Tangedco received maximum wind power support from the company’s power generating units which resulted in a subdued generation by thermal units, reported Economic Times.
In 2018, Coal India has delivered about 6.5 million tonnes of coal between April and August as opposed to 5 million tonnes during the same months in 2017. This results in an addition of a million and a half tonnes than the previous year with a growth of 30 per cent.
India in the recent years has made optimum utilisation of its resources for ensuring better movement to the power plants through railways and sea routes. Indian Railways has been requested by Coal India to supply more rakes so that the delivery of coal is made as per the necessary requirement.
