Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS)
The Tamil Nadu police have arrested a man who called former chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Interim General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) as a ‘symbol of betrayal’ while they both were travelling in a shuttle bus at the Madurai Airport.
He shot the incident on Facebook Live.
The man, a supporter of VK Sasikala, (known as Chinnamma), a close aide of former chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha, can be heard calling EPS as 'edirkacchi thalaivar drohatin adayalam' meaning 'EPS, the leader of opposition is a symbol of betrayal.'
Sasikala was expelled from the party and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran started the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) in 2018.
He added that EPS had discriminated against southern Tamil Nadu by giving 10.5 per cent reservation to Vanniyars who are mainly located in northern Tamil Nadu.
EPS was flying from Madurai as he had come to attend a party meeting in the adjoining Sivaganga district.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
