Tamil Nadu coronavirus cases rise.
Following extensive contact tracing pursuits, the state of Tamil Nadu reported 50 people testing positive for Covid-19 today evening (31 March) as per state health secretary Beela Rajesh.
All 50 individuals had visited the Delhi Nizamuddin Banglewali/Markaz masjid for an event organised by the Tablighi Jamaat group.
Tamil Nadu had traced some 981 individuals out of nearly 1500 attendees who had attended the event at the Delhi mosque. 16 attendees had earlier tested positive. With the recent announcement of 45 individuals testing positive the state's tally of Covid-19 positive cases rises to 124, Republic reported.
Tamil Nadu is among the worst affected states due to Tablighi Jamaat’s members touring the state and through contact at the Nizamuding Banglewali masjid event that was held late in March.
Preachers from countries such as Thailand were taken into quarantine in Tamil Nadu after it came to light that they had attended the main Tablighi Jamaat event in Malayasia which acted as a super vector for Coronavirus in South East Asian countries.
More than 200 people from the Nizamuddin Banglewali masjid have been taken to quarantine facilities in Delhi today. At least ten attendees of the Tablighi Jamat event have died of Coronavirus as of this evening (31 March).
