Tamil Nadu reported 1,286 new coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday (3 June) taking the total number of cases in the state to 25,872, state’s health department said as tweeted by news agency ANI.

The state also reported 11 casualties today, while 610 people got discharged after recovering from COVID-19.

Being the second worst-hit state in the country after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu currently has 11,345 active patients and 208 people have succumbed to the deadly virus so far. However, on a positive note, 14,316 people have been cured till date.

Earlier on Sunday, the state government extended the coronavirus lockdown in the state until 30 June. Despite the centre’s decision to allow opening up religious places, they would continue to remain shut in the state.

However, some relaxations have been given in opening up public transport in the fifth phase of the lockdown that started from 1 June, while more employees will be allowed at workplaces. Buses will not be run in hotspot regions such as Chennai, Kancheepurm, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet districts.
