The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided not to levy entry tax for commercial vehicles entering the national capital region till the end of September reports, The Financial Express. This exemption would be valid till 30 September and would benefit travellers between Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon.

SDMC is the nodal Municipal Corporation which collects toll on behalf of all three Delhi corporations.

The suspension of toll collection will apply to all border toll points, and only environment compensation charges would be levied. The decision has been taken in a bid to avoid congestion at toll collection points as the installation work of Radio Frequency Identification devices (RFID) is ongoing.

RFID technology is implemented across borders of the national capital territory (NCT) region to avoid congestion owing to manual toll collection at toll plazas. In addition to it, the RFID technology could be employed to ensure that no vehicles older than ten years will enter the NCT region.

SDMC has assured that once the work is complete, RFID would permanently solve the problem of congestion at toll plazas.
