Tata Sons has appointed as its chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chief executive officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). As one of the youngest chiefs of the Tata group, and someone who is considered an insider, Chandrasekaran was a front-runner in the run up to the critical selection for the conglomerate.

He replaces Cyrus Mistry, who was sacked from his role at the helm of Tata Sons on 24 October, after which a bitter battle ensued between him and the group. Ratan Tata took on the role of interim chairman at the time while a five-member selection committee searched for a new chairman.

Chandra, as he is said to be affectionately called, joined the Tata group in 1987, and rose through the ranks to become TCS chief in 2009.
