Minister for Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Badal

Union Minister for Food Processing and Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the first Mega Food Park of Telangana in Lakkampally, Nizamabad on Friday (6 September). The food park setup with a cost of Rs 108.95 crore is expected to benefit the people of Nizamabad district along with nearby districts including Jagtial, Rajanna, Sircilla and Kamareddy in Telangana, and Nanded in Maharashtra.

According to Press Information Bureau, Badal told that the food park was going to attract an additional investment of about Rs 250 crore in 22 food processing units in the park and produce a turnover of nearly Rs 14,000 crore. Badal also said that the park will open direct and indirect employment opportunities to over 50,000 youth in the region.

Spread over 78 acres of land, this food park will accommodate a raw material warehouse, finished good warehouse, multi-commodity cold storage with the capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes each, and other food processing facilities.

Mega food parks are being opened across the country with an aim to provide a push to the growth of food processing industry and to reduce post harvest wastage at each stage of the supply chain. They are also believed to support the central government’s agenda of doubling farmer income by 2022.

Mega food parks provide modern infrastructure for food processing through the supply chain from field to market, using a cluster based approach.
