The Telangana High Court has asked the State Government to ban firecrackers during Diwali this year.
A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Raghvendra Sing Chauhan, asked the K Chandrashekhar Rao government to issue orders to close shops selling firecrackers and take action against those violating the ban.
The bench, with Justice B Vijayasen Reddy as the other member, asked the State government to also create awareness on the ban on firecrackers through various media platforms.
It also pointed out to bans imposed by Rajasthan and a couple of other State governments, including Delhi, on firecrackers.
The judges said that the Supreme Court had upheld a Kolkata High Court ban on crackers in West Bengal.
The Telangana government has been asked to file an action taken report on 19 November, when the case will be heard further.
The bench’s direction came on a petition filed by advocate Indra Prakash, who appeared before it in person.
Prakash argued that firecrackers caused pollution and thus would affect patients suffering from novel Coronavirus since it could cause problems to the respiratory system.
