Telangana: Number Of Petrol Pumps In Hyderabad Set To Double; Dealers Complain Of Declining Profits

Hyderabad will get 600 more fuel stations in addition to already existing 600 outlets, making Telangana reaching a total of 3,000 petrol pumps, reports ET Energy.
The petroleum ministry has issued permission to open 60,000 petrol pumps in the country. MP Reddy, chairman, National Petrol Dealers’ Association, said that huge effort went into setting them up in every corner of the country, which, according to him, will benefit a lot of consumers.
The notification to set up the pump was issued on 14 December, with the application window open till 25 December to anyone who can provide an application with an initial fee of Rs. 10,000.
State and National level petrol dealer associations are demanding the Centre to provide feasibility report since the existing outlets are barely profitable.
The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is the biggest player with 60 per cent control, followed by Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL). Reliance Industries, Nayara Energy and Royal Dutch Shell are the smaller players in the oil market.
Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) joint secretary and Telangana Petrol Dealers’ Association (TPDA) president, Rajiv Amaram, said that TPDA is mulling over to approach the court if feasibility report is not provided to them. One of the reasons for the TPDA to feel uneasy is that under the new eligibility criteria, the applicant need not be the owner of the land where petrol pump would be set up.
