Intelligence inputs suggest possibility of “spectacular” attack on religious sites and public places in Uttar Pradesh. As a result, state police has tightened security in all districts, reported Manish Chandra Pandey and Gulam Jeelani for Hindustan Times.
The “anti-national elements” are reportedly trained by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, and are trying to blend in with the crowd as Hindu saints.
The report quotes an official letter as saying,
This comes just two days after the Delhi Police special cell, in a joint operation with the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad, arrested three Islamic State suspects from Jalandhar, Mumbai and Bijnor.
Uttar Pradesh’s new director general of police, Sulkhan Singh, said to Hindustan Times that he “won’t be able to comment immediately”, but that they were “capable of neutralising any threat.”
