Tesla Recalls Over 14,000 Cars In China Over Takata Airbags

The market regulator in China has announced that Elon Musk’s Tesla will recall 14,123 cars from China as the airbags in the cars were partly made by currently defunct Japanese manufacturer Takata, The Hindu reports.
After a 2017 bust of Takata’s faulty airbags, which were blamed for various deaths, Tesla announced that it had decided to recall various Model S cars which were a part of the global industry-wide rooting.
According to the State Administration of Market Regulation, the Model S cars affected in China were manufactured between February 2014 and December 2016. The passenger side airbags in the vehicle reportedly had ammonium nitrate propellant which was made by the Japanese auto-part maker.
It was at the risk of breakage and could result in the ejection of debris. Tesla will be replacing them, the regulator said.
An announcement on Tesla’s website read: “Recall of the front passenger airbags in 2012 Model S vehicles began in January 2017, was extended to 2013 Model S vehicles in January 2018, and is now being extended to 2014-2016 Model S vehicles in January 2019”.
