The Accidental Prime Minister: MP Government Backs Off Sensing Loss Of Face, Says Film Will ‘Not’ Be Banned

After rumours about the Government of Madhya Pradesh imposing a ban on the movie ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ starring Anupam Kher and others, a clarification has been issued on Friday (December 28) that the ban has not been imposed, Deccan Chronicle reported.
Based on Sanjay Baru’s book, the movie has courted enough controversy already, that too just with the release of the trailer. Youth Congress and NSUI in several states have threatened to shut down theatres in the country that screen the movie. Dismissing artistic liberty by calling the movie "propaganda” and “based on distorted facts”, the party has been facing flak for not holding up the freedom of expression.
Anupam Kher plays the role of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. As a run up to the 2019 elections, many political biopics are being released such as this one and Thackeray, based on Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s life.
