The Bigger, The Better: Delhi Metro To Add Two Extra Coaches To Its Trains To Meet Soaring Passenger Growth

The National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) is considering Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) proposal to purchase 156 metro rail coaches required to expand metro services in Delhi, News18 has reported.
"Besides, 36 coaches (six train sets of six coaches each) for the Airport Express Line on account of extension of Airport Express Line to Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre, Dwarka, have also been planned," a source has told News18.
In two letters to the DMRC’s Business Development Director, the government had sought details and background of the long pending proposal. The procurement of these coaches will enable Delhi Metro to convert all of its remaining six-coach trains on the Yellow, Blue, and Red lines to eight-coach trains.
Red Line (Dilshad Garden), Blue Line (Dwarka-Vaishali/Noida City Centre) and Yellow Line (Samyapur Badli to Huda City Centre) carry the bulk of the traffic on Delhi Metro Rail network. Currently, Delhi Metro network is 296 km long and connects 214 stations.
