EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini (R) and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla (EEAS)
The European Union (US) today (12 December) signed a historic deal with Cuba on political dialogue and cooperation, reported Mirage News. Cuba was the only Latin American country that did not have a so-called 'dialogue and cooperation' deal with the EU. The deal covers issues ranging from trade to human rights and migration.
The deal was signed by the heads of EU member states, along with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. Earlier in March, Cuban and EU officials signed a normalisation deal, but it still needed backing from the 28 member states.
The deal was signed after the EU repealed a 1996 policy last week, which required Cuba to first improve its human rights conditions before a full normalisation of ties could happen. The EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini now said that the EU was ready to support Cuba's process of economic and social modernisation.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
