The Legendary Tata Nano Might Make A Comeback As An Electric Vehicle

Tata Motors' much-awaited Nano electric is all set to be launched on 28 November but with a twist – it will be sold as the Jayem Neo, reports Autocar. Tata will supply the Nano's body to Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives who will build the engine and transmission for the electric vehicle (EV). Tata and Jayem have been associated with each other for a while now and recently set up a joint venture – JT Special Vehicles – to manufacture 'sporty' editions of Tata's cars. Jayem will sell the Neo under its brand with Tata set to enter the market later.
The Neo is set to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hyderabad.
The electric powertrain – the main components of an EV – will be sourced from Electra EV which specialises designing electric powertrains, battery units and the required charging infrastructure. At 800 kg, the Neo will be powered by a 48 Volt system with a maximum output of 17 kW (23hp).
This model of the Neo is set to be available exclusively for fleet operators and not individuals. Autocar reports sources claiming a range of 200 km on a full charge under ideal conditions and around 140km with four passengers with air-conditioning.
The first 400 Neos will be made available to aggregator Ola Cabs.
