The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today put out figures of the volume and value of currency that has been issued to the public through the banks.
During this period, the RBI has issued a total of 22.6 billion pieces of notes of various denominations to the banks and their branches for distribution to the public. Of this, 20.4 billion pieces have made up small denomination notes of Rs 10, 20, 50 and 100, and 2.2 billion piece have made up higher denominations of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500.
