Speaking at the backdrop of the encounter killing of the four accused in the gang-rape and murder of a veterinarian from Hyderabad by Telangana Police, Vice President (VP) M Venkaiah naidu expressed on Sunday (8 December), "There can not be instant justice, but there cannot be constant delays either," reports Financial Express.
The remark from VP Naidu come a day after the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India SA Bobde had asserted that justice can never be instant and that it loses its character when it becomes revenge.
VP Naidu made his remark while he was delivering the Virendra Bhatia Memorial lecture on the Pillars of Democracy. At his lecture, he pressed for a people-friendly judicial regime, while also underscoring the need to conduct court proceedings in local languages so that people can understand it.
It should be noted that the encounter killings of the accused in the aforementioned case has drawn mixed reactions from various sections, ranging from condemnation of the police action, to appreciation of the same.
