Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress Party and MP from Karnataka spoke on various issues including Rafale deal, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) controversy, minimum support price (MSP) of farmers and the dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, in an interview given to The Hindu.

Regarding Ayodhya temple, he said that it's just an exercise of BJP to mobilise cadres ahead of the polls and the Ram Temple issue doesn’t have any resonance with the public.

When asked whether Congress campaign on Rafale is connecting with the public, Kharge replies that people are feeling cheated and if BJP views this as a non-issue, then that exposes the reality of its nationalist credentials.

On the Assembly polls, Kharge said he is confident that Congress has a chance to win all the five states. When asked about the rebellion in the party in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, he said that Congress’s selection was ninety-nine per cent correct. The rest, he said, are minor glitches.

Commenting on Rahul Gandhi's credentials, he said that Mr. Gandhi has proven his mettle to be the leader of the country. Taking criticism by Modi and BJP as the standard, he said that their targeting of Rahul Gandhi is a proof enough of his strength.

Speaking on alliances, Mallikarjun Kharge said that eveybody should unite against Sangh Parivar and BJP and any mobilisation against them will have full support of Congress. He called the coalition government in Karnataka an example of the ‘sacrifices’ Congress made for the ‘cause’. He added that the party is accommodating enough to take along everybody against the BJP and Sangh Parivar. He welcomed all the BJP allies who have realised their mistake of supporting ‘RSS ideology’ are most welcome to join Congress.

When asked whether one would see more Karnataka style ‘sacrifices’ in other states, he said that it could be different from place to place and party high command would take the decision in that regard.

When asked about CP Joshi remarks about low-caste status of PM Modi and Brahmins, he said that the issue is closed after Rahul Gandhi’s tweet.
