Three Remaining Units Of NTPC’s 3,300 MW Barh Super Thermal Power Project To Begin Operations By April 2021

The Union Minister R K Singh has said that commercial generation of the three remaining units of the National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) Barh super thermal power project will start by April 2021, Economic Times has reported.
The minister was visiting the 3,300 Megawatt (MW) capacity plant on Saturday (27 October) when he made the comment. Out of 1,320 MW that the plant is currently generating, 1,000 MW is being allocated to Bihar.
The operations of unit-1 and unit-2 of the power plant began in November 2014 and February 2016 respectively.
Singh, in a review meeting, instructed the NTPC officials to ensure that the third unit of the plant, which is originally scheduled to be completed by April 2020, is commissioned by December 2019 as 85 per cent of the work on it has been completed.
"More than 75 per cent power generated at the Barh plant has been allotted to Bihar to meet the increased demand in the state,” said the minister.
The public relations manager of NTPC, Vishwanath Chandan said that the contract of the Russian firm which has to make the remaining three units operational was terminated because it was demanding additional payment.
