The Indian Air Force (IAF) was thanked by India’s national carrier Air India (AI) for its timely help in giving immediate permission to land at Jamnagar Air Force Base in Gujarat after one of the passengers on board a Delhi-Muscat AI flight suffered a cardiac arrest.
As per a report in Business Today, after the landing, the patient was taken to the nearest civil hospital from the Jamnagar Airforce Base and was attended by an IAF doctor on the way.
"AI 973 Delhi Muscat flt diverted to Jamnagar Air Force Base at 2230 with an Indian passenger aged 33 sufferng cardiac arrest in flight. IAF responded promptly. Diversion to civil airfield wd hv taken more time. Patient shifted to hospital accompanied by IAF doc," tweeted the PRO Defence Gujarat Puneet Chadha.
Only very rarely are commercial flights given the green light to land the plane on IAF bases but the IAF made an exception in the above case by giving a quick landing clearance which saved the passengers’ life.
