Lawyers belonging to the Tirupati Bar Association yesterday congregated to carry out a protest demanding that a High Court bench be set up in the pilgrimage town, reports ANI.

A few protesting advocates took to standing for the whole day inside metal drums which were full of water.

"We have already made a mistake by concentrating on High Court in Hyderabad and since Hyderabad is in Telangana, again the Chief Minister (N Chandrababu Naidu) is doing the same mistake by concentrating on Amaravati. The Chief Minister has taken a unilateral decision and established Andhra Pradesh High Court at Amaravati,” stated a senior advocate, Vasu.

He also criticised another proposal to create a bench of the high court at Kurnool, asserting that it was anyways not very far from Amaravati. He lamented the fact that the state government had ignored the sentiments of the Tirupati lawyers and had not consulted them in its decision.

He added that as Tirupati was a renowned town, a bench of the high court should be established there as soon as possible.
