The president of the Kanchipuram unit of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK), M Kannadasan, filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court, saying that Governor RN Ravi should be removed from his position as he holds an ‘office of profit’ by virtue of being the chairman of the Pondicherry based Auroville Foundation.
As per the constitution, under Article 158(2), a Governor shall not hold any other office of profit.
The petition sought a direction from the Court to Governor Ravi, under the quo warranto writ to explain how he is holding the constitutional post of Governor and under what authority.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
