Toilet Coverage In Rural India Has More Than Doubled In Three Years

Toilet coverage in rural India has more than doubled in three years, a report in the Indian Express by Quality Council of India chairman Adil Zainulbhai has said, adding that nine in 10 households with toilets use them.
According to the report, the number of households without toilets has come down to 32.5 per cent from 69 per cent in the last three years.
Less than three in 10 households (26.75 per cent) are without a toilet in the country now, against around 50 per cent in 2011. As per Census 2011, more than five in 10 households did not have a toilet or individual household latrine.
In the urban areas, the number of households without toilets has come down to 14.5 per cent, down from 18 per cent three years ago.
“Three years after the launch of the mission, a behavioural change is discernible, especially in rural India,” Zainulbhai has said in the report.
