In an attempt to counter the toxicity on its social media platform, Twitter Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jack Dorsey has said that the company is working with an external team on a plan to reduce abuse on Twitter.

Twitter, among other prominent social media platforms, has faced criticism about the increasing cases of abuse genuine users face from other users and trolls.

First in the plan to counter misuse of its platform, Twitter plans to test if making its rules more visible to the users helps in making the community more compliant to the rules.

“Research has shown that when institutions publish rules clearly, people are more likely to follow them,” Susan Benesch and J. Nathan Matias wrote, in a post detailing Twitter’s plan. Benesch and Mathias are part of the team that will work with Twitter on the case.

Twitter hasn’t revealed how it plans to execute the plan. However, it has said that the plan has been approved by two university ethics committees and that it will work with anonymised user data on the project.
