The ministry of AYUSH will now have representation in the World Health Organisation (WHO), PTI has reported. The announcement was made by Union Minister Shripad Naik at an event in Nagpur.

“Earlier, we had no representation in WHO despite having a post. Now, AYUSH has a permanent representative at the WHO. We have entered into MoU with 12 countries in WHO on faculty teaching, research and student exchange programme,” he said at the sidelines of an event.

Naik mentioned that an institute of Yoga and Naturopathy had been set up in Jhajjar, Haryana and a similar one was underway in Nagamandalam, Tamil Nadu. The minister announced that a National Institute of Medicinal Plants would be set up in Vidharba, Maharashtra during the event. He also added that institutes of Yoga and Naturopathy would come up across the country.

“Ayurveda practitioners are already available at all Public Health Centres (PHCs). AYUSH Mission wants to reach out to all villages gradually,” the minister said while adding that AYUSH hospitals with a capacity of 50 beds would come up in all districts of the country.
