Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has asked third parties to develop applications to help subscribers choose TV channels from any cable or DTH provider according to the new tariff regime, reports The Economic Times.

The regulator had issued the new tariff order which ensured subscribers pay only for the channels they watch. However, the selecting of channels has caused subscribers a lot of inconvenience. Hence, to ease the selecting of channels, TRAI has been issuing various measures including developing their app to help subscribers.

The regulator on Friday (9 July) issued draft regulations amending the quality of service in broadcasting rules. All DPOs need to enable customers to choose channels/bouquets via their own or third-party mobile application or web portal.

“Any third party can create an app which consumers can use, irrespective of their service provider, to choose the channels they want to watch at any time, and thus help them reduce their monthly spends on TV subscription,” TRAI Secretary SK Gupta said.

The body is working to induct an application in a month after receiving comments from stakeholders. The step is taken to resolve the key issues of consumers unable to choose channels.
