The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (23 January) adjourned the tariff regulation case involving Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to 28 January, Indian Express has reported.
The case has been filed by various DTH operators like Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and Sun Direct. The final hearing in this matter will be pronounced on 28 January.
It is expected that if the High Court rules in TRAI’s favour the new tariff regulations would come into effect from 1 February but the DTH operators would have an option to appeal in the Supreme Court.
If the High Court rules in the operators’ favour, the tariff regulation might be stalled or deferred.
Tata Sky is especially stuck in the eye of the storm as subscribers have alleged that they are being misled by the DTH operator over the matter. It was reportedly running a ticker which claimed that TRAI has extended the deadline to implement its new framework.
TRAI has as a result asked the operator to file a status report over its progress in implementing the new rules.
