The Union Cabinet recently gave its in-principle approval to implement the Master Plan to transform All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi into a “world class Medical University” and to set up a new AIIMS Institute in Haryana at the cost of Rs 1299 crore.

The AIIMS Delhi Master Plan intends to free up adequate space at the institute through redevelopment, vertical expansion and reorganising the land usage to ensure optimal utilisation of resources for the next 20 years.

“The project would provide highly specialised state-of-the-art healthcare to the patients and an integrated ‘One Campus’ answer to all the investigative, physiotherapeutic, operative, rehabilitative and vocational needs of the patients,” a government release stated.

The redeveloped infrastructure would ensure smart mobility and accessibility for the patients and enable AIIMS to become an apex tertiary care centre for the advancement of research, clinical applications and management of patients.

New AIIMS In Haryana

The new AIIMS institute will come up in Manethi, Haryana’s Rewari district. It will add 100 Undergraduate (MBBS) seats and 60 B Sc (Nursing) seats and have a capacity of around 750 hospital beds. It will also accommodate 15-20 Super Specialty Departments.

Extrapolating data from the performance of various AIIMS currently operational across the country, it can be estimated that the new AIIMS would cater to around 1500 OPD patients per day and about 1000 IPD patients per month.

“Setting up of new AIIMS would not only transform health education and training but also address the shortfall of health care professionals in the region,” added the release.
