Three Indian Americans, namely Rita Baranwal, Aditya Bamzai and Bima Patel have been nominated to vital positions in the current United States administration by President Donald Trump on Wednesday (16 January 2019), reports The Tribune.

The appointees follow more than three dozen other Indian Americans who have been inducted under the Trump administration.

Baranwal, Bamzai and Patel have been nominated for the designations of assistant secretary of Energy (Nuclear Energy), Member of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, and assistant secretary of the Treasury, respectively.

Although Trump had earlier announced his intention to nominate the three, the formal nomination took place now with the list of nominations being communicated to the Senate by the White House.

Baranwal is currently working as Director, Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) initiative. If her new appointment is confirmed by the Senate, then she will be in charge of the Office of Nuclear Energy’s nuclear technology research and development.

Bamzai is a Yale graduate who teaches at the University of Virginia School of Law and was previously an attorney-adviser in the US Department of Justice.

As for Patel, she is presently working as deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for the Financial Stability Oversight Council and had previously headed the financial advisory and regulation law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP as a partner.
