Trump Picks Top Aides; Reince Priebus Is Chief Of Staff, Steve Bannon Is Chief Strategist

The US President-elect Donald Trump has named two top advisers to his administration, with the Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus as his new chief of staff and his campaign chief executive officer, Steve Bannon, as chief strategist and senior counsellor.

Trump said on Sunday (13 November),

Priebus is among the longest-serving chairmen of the Republican Party, and is known to get along with different factions within the party. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had urged Trump to pick Priebus, a source told CNN. Priebus first established himself in Wisconsin politics, where he worked as a legislative aide and, later, as a lawyer with a Milwaukee firm.

Bannon was executive director of Breitbart News, the conservative website that heralded the rise of alt-right ideologies this campaign cycle. He took a leave of absence in August to lead Trump’s campaign. Bannon has also produced several documentary films, served as a naval officer and was once an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.

Bannon expressed his gratitude to Trump in a statement for his role with the White House, commenting on his future relationship with Priebus as chief of staff.
