As a project under the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams (TTD), 200 people, mainly from the Dalit and backward communities had undergone training for 3 months to take up duties as priests in the temples run by the TTD, reported Times Of India.
TTD executive Anil Singhal has expressed optimism that the new priests will soon take over the temples under the TTD, claiming that this is the first time the members from backward communities are taking up duties with the world’s richest temple.
The programme was initiated by the Sri Venkateswara Employees' Training Academy (SVETA) two years back, but was discontinued owing to some resistance to it. However, it has now that the programme has been completed.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
