The two Indian staffers of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan who had recently been abducted by the Pakistani security agencies returned to the Indian soil via the Wagah-Attari border crossing yesterday (22 June), reports Hindustan Times.

After protests by India, Pakistan had released the two staffers. However, it had alleged that the two had been caught in connection with a road accident as the Islamabad Police had accused them of rash driving and possessing fake Pakistani currency.

The charges were strongly denied by New Delhi, and it was after a detention of over 12 hours that the two were released. This was after Indian had summoned Pakistan's chargé d’affaires Syed Haider Shah.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs had also issued an official statement over the development which said that Pakistan had forcibly abducted the two Indian staffers and subjected them to interrogation, torture and physical assault.
