In another round of violence linked to a political clash between two different factions in West Bengal, two people died due to bullet injuries and four others were wounded today (20 June) in the Bhatpara area of the state, reports Hindustan Times.

The fighting between the two sides is believed to have involved crude bombs and small arms as well, with police coming to the scene and resorting to firing.

One of the deceased has been identified as Rambabu Shaw, who was street vendor by profession.

The clash has been blamed on the state’s ruling Trinamool government by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said, “Mamata Banerjee has lost her mental balance since the Lok Sabha elections. Clashes are taking place all over the state. I have got information that two people fell to police bullets.”

Vijayvargiya also stated that a delegation from the party would visit the area to take stock of the situation and then send a report to the central government.

The Bhatpara area has been tense following the victory of BJP leader Arjun Singh, who had switched over from the Trinamool, in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
