A list of the 1,000 buses shared by the Uttar Pradesh Congress with the Yogi Adityanath led state government for the ferrying of migrant workers has run into a controversy after auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers were allegedly found to be part of the list.

The list was shared with the Yogi government after the latter decided to take up Priyanka Vadra’s promise to provide a 1,000 buses for the ferrying of migrant workers. The Yogi government had asked Vadra to provide the details of the vehicles without delay.

After the list was released various social media users proceeded to tally the registration numbers of the buses with the Road Transport and Highways Ministry database which provides vehicle registration details like vehicle class and model number.

They soon posted screenshots claiming that some the vehicles which were being passed off as buses were actually two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and cars.

For example the vehicle number UP 83T 1006 - twelfth on the list is actually registered to an auto-rickshaw whose road tax and insurance expired way back in 2013.

Media reports also quoted UP Chief Minister’s adviser as claiming that “many of the vehicles arranged by the Congress were smaller vehicles like bikes, cars and auto-rickshaws”.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Siddharth Nath Singh has also claimed that after a preliminary inquiry they have found that many vehicles are turning out to be 2-wheelers, autos and goods carriers.

BJP leader Sambit Patra too cornered the Congress over this issue.

The Congress has denied these claims and accused the government of playing politics.
