The United Arab Emirates has deported five men of Indian origin suspected of having links with the Islamic State (IS), the Times of India has reported.

According to the report, Indian intelligence agencies are currently interrogating the men. While one of the five men belongs to Uttar Pradesh, two belong to Maharashtra and the other two are from Tamil Nadu. The men, who know each other, are believed to be in the age-group of 20 to 25 years.

"The UAE had intercepted their communication in which they were discussing their plans to recruit more and carry out Jehad against India. They were in touch with senior leaders of Islamic State," the daily quoted an official as saying.

"The five boys did Umrah (Islamic pilgrimage) at the age of 18 or 19 years and have strong religious beliefs," the officer added.

The five men have been deported nearly two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country, his second in the last few years. Anti-terror cooperation was at the centre of talks between the two countries.
