Uddhav Thackeray Set To Be Elected An MLC Unopposed As Congress Withdraws Its Candidate To Clear The Way

Incumbent Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray is set to be elected an MLC unopposed as Congress has withdrawn the nomination of one of its candidates, reports Times Now.
It should be noted that Congress party's withdrawal of its candidate Raj Kishor Modi for the polls which are scheduled to be held on 21 May came as Thackeray had pressed that the election should be held in an 'unopposed' fashion.
The development comes as Thackeray's hold at the CM position was under threat given the inability to become an MLC by 28 May would have forced him to resign. He is now set to file in his nomination papers today (11 May).
It should be noted that a candidate needs votes from at least 29 MLAs to win as an MLC in the Maharashtra Assembly of 288 members. In the Assembly.
