‘UK Needs To Adjust Its Strategy To India’s Enhanced Influence and Power’, Says British Parliamentary Panel Report

The United Kingdom is falling behind in the global race to engage with a rising India and needs to adjust its strategy to New Delhi’s enhanced influence and power, a key British Parliamentary Committee said in a report on India-UK ties.
The Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) of the British Parliament, in its report titled ‘Building Bridges: Reawakening UK-India Ties’, said that the UK is failing to make the most of extensive ties it has with India, reports Hindustan Times.
"The UK is falling behind in the global race to engage with a rising India. The world is changing fast and the UK's strategy has not yet adjusted to this new reality. We cannot afford to be complacent or rely on historical connections to deliver a modern partnership," said the report, as reported by ANI.
“The UK needs to adjust its strategy to India’s enhanced influence and power: we should do more to respond to India’s priorities, and should communicate our own objectives more clearly,” added the report.
The report also criticised the Theresa May-led government for failing to issue an apology on the hundredth anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
“There is little excuse for failing to issue an apology for atrocities such as the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The lack of clarity around the decision is particularly unhelpful. The Government missed an important symbolic opportunity by failing to issue a full apology on the 100th anniversary of the crime, and should rectify this without delay,” it said.
