The Mazagon Dockyard in Mumbai fabled for manufacturing state-of-the-art warships and sea vessels for the Indian Navy suffered a setback on Friday (21 June) when an under-construction warship christened 'Vishakhapatnam' caught major fire, reports India Today.

In the mishappening, a person, Bajendra Kumar (23) could not manage to get out in time and succumbed to the fire after being trapped inside for long. Kumar was a contract worker.

According to the chief of the city of the fire brigade, PS Rahangdale, the fire remained confined to the second and third deck of the warship though, while the smoke had spread all over. Eight fire-fighting engines along with a quick response vehicle had been pressed into service immediately.

The fire erupted at about 5.44 pm on the second deck, and the exact cause behind the mishap will be ascertained after a proper inquiry.
