Under 'Mission Sheeghra', Indian Railways Achieves Running Of Freight Trains At Top Permissible Speed Of 100 Kmph

In a major positive development, the Indian Railways has achieved an unprecedented feat by running freight trains at the maximum permissible speed of 100 kilometres per hour (kmph) under 'Mission Sheeghra', reports Financial Express.
This unseen speed for any freight train in India was achieved by the Indian Railways' Lucknow Division on the network which comes under the Northern Railway Zone.
The achievement comes as a testament of the efforts being instituted by the Railways to shorten the time taken to transports goods to any part of the nation, and to attract more freight customers.
The development comes merely days after the Railways had achieved the average freight train speeds of 42 kmph on 21 June, which was almost double of the average speed of 23 kmph achieved by the Railways' freight trains in June, a year ago.
With various sections of the two dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) nearing the completion, the Railways' freight operations are set to receive further fillip in the times to come.
