The Union Home Ministry has constituted a four-member team to find facts and look into reasons for the post-election violence that has emerged in West Bengal in the last few days. The group, led by an additional secretary of the ministry, will also be in charge of assessing the prevalent ground situation in the eastern state, Times of India reports.
This comes after the ministry had sent a succinct reminder to the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government to send in a detailed report on the violence that broke following the Trinamool Congress’ victory in the assembly polls.
The state government was also asked to not lose any time and swiftly undertake the required measures in order to put a halt to such incidents furthermore.
Images and videos of scores of BJP workers and voters being harassed by TMC goons have been circulating on social media in recent times.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had apparently expressed anguish over the law and order situation in the state to West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar. The saffron party’s national president JP Nadda also toured the state in the last two days and met with the families of the deceased BJP workers.
