Yogi Adityanath To Not Attend Father’s Last Rites To Follow Lockdown And Lead UP’s Fight Against Covid-19

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath has decided to not attend the last rites of his father Anand Singh Bisht who passed away today morning (20 April). He took this decision to follow the norms of the lockdown in place to fight COVID-19 pandemic, he said in a letter tweeted by ANI.

According to the letter, he said, “He would not be taking part in the last rites scheduled tomorrow (21 April) to ensure the success of the lockdown and strategy to defeat the global pandemic.”

He also urged his mother and other family members to follow the lockdown norms and not gather in large numbers for the cremation ceremony, while saying he would visit her once the lockdown is lifted.

The CM’s father had passed away today morning (20 April), Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish K Awasthi informed in a press briefing. He was 88 years old.

According to an Amar Ujala report, Yogi’s father was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi since 13 March over kidney and liver ailments. A former forest ranger, he was a resident of a village in Uttarakhand’s Yamkeshwar.
