Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (18 September) unveiled the first Made In India prototype train of the Agra and Kanpur metro projects, reports Hindustan Times.
CM Yogi termed metro as a ‘necessity’ in the current times and said that efforts are being made to bring the metro services to cities like Meerut, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.
Presently, four cities in the state, namely: Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida have metro train services.
CM Yogi expressed hope that the ongoing metro projects would be dedicated to the nation by 30 November.
“It is a matter of pride to be invited for the inauguration of the first-ever prototype train of Kanpur and Agra Metro. Congratulations to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Alstom Transport India Limited for this. This is a matter of pride for us,” CM Yogi was quoted by as saying.
He added, “Efforts are underway to bring Metro trains to Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Varanasi and Meerut too. Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for these have been either sent or are in its final stages.”
The construction of the metro project in Agra was inaugurated back in December 2020 whereas the civil construction works on the priority corridor of Kanpur metro from IIT to Motijheel was awarded last year.
