Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his BJP colleague, Union Minister and Member of Parliament Smriti Irani recently launched one of the strongest verbal attacks on a "former Member of Parliament" from Amethi.

The two senior leaders of the BJP were speaking at a public rally in Amethi, the constituency known for being the bastion of the Gandhi family until 2019, ahead of the 2022 Vidhan Sabha polls.

Yogi Adityanath and Irani did not mention the leader's name from the Gandhi family. However, their attacks indicated that the strong verbal attacks were charged at the MP from whom the BJP wrested power in the Lok Sabha polls of 2019, making history.

Continuing her attack on her predecessor on the recurrent issue of development and the availability of facilities in Amethi, Irani said that they are making false promises to the people of Amethi when it is the BJP that has cared for the people of the constituency by giving them facilities, healthcare and rations.

She mentioned that the Yogi Adityanath government has opened several medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh and it was due to the efforts of the BJP-led government that the presence of a medical college in Amethi moved towards becoming a reality on ground.

Last month, she had said that those who "claimed to have family bonds with the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency never raised the issue of its development in Parliament."

She had then mentioned that Amethi faced various problems for years and the person then elected from the Amethi constituency "was silent on them".

She inaugurated projects worth Rs 5 crore — A bus stand in Tiloi in Amethi was one of the highlights of the development that has taken place in Amethi under the 'double engine sarkar' in Uttar Pradesh (and the BJP-led government at the centre).

Irani pointed out in her speech at the public rally once again that it was under the rule of the BJP that Tiloi got a bus stop. She added that it was only due to the support of the Yogi Adityanath government in UP that Amethi was now moving towards better days.

She said that a party that ruled in Amethi for years could not even provide medical facilities to women. Her attack on the Congress came against the backdrop of 'Ladki hoon' — the party's campaign under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi.

The public rally in Amethi saw Yogi Adityanath and Smriti Irani making a coordinated verbal attack on the opposition under the ongoing Hindu-Hindutva debate launched on the BJP from different sides.

Not mentioning the name of the leader, Yogi Adityanath said that the leader who claims to be a Hindu did not even know how to sit for worship inside a temple.

Smriti Irani said that Yogi Adityanath was a true Hindu as he was serving people from all walks of life and backgrounds, in Uttar Pradesh.

Irani mentioned the names of prominent local leaders from her party in her speech, highlighting their support and efforts, in a multi-pronged attack on her predecessors.

Amethi has four Vidhan Sabha constituencies. The BJP arrived on three of them and the Samajwadi Party won one in the state assembly polls of 2017.

Tiloi, Jagdishpur, Gauriganj and Amethi will see the BJP fighting to secure all four. Among these, despite the influence of the Congress in the past, the BJP is holding Tiloi, Jagdishpur and Amethi since 2017.
